Environmental protection and careful use of natural resources deserve first priority. This is demonstrated in quarries by the careful and sustainable use of natural resources. Successful renaturation efforts in former quarrying areas are blessed by nature with an abundant succession of flora and fauna. Protection of the environment is also reflected in the respect for human requirements near the plant. This is why a noise barrier was installed in front of the rotary kiln in 2006 in order to minimize the noise level in a nearby residential area. The in-plant wastewater treatment system purifies the water and numerous filters provide clean air.

Märker uses state-of-the-art production plants and therefore keeps significantly below applicable emission limits. Märker makes an active and important contribution to the protection of people and environment. The philosophy of the company includes a high level of safety at work, responsible use of raw materials and efficient economical use of energy, for example by using secondary fuels for clinker burning.

Reducing CO2 emissions to the best possible level is an integral part of our corporate policy. As an established company in the cement and lime industries Märker takes part in the EU Greenhouse Gas Emission Trading Scheme (EU ETS).
